Year Three Classes
The children in year 3 have settled well into their first term in Key stage 2. Their independence is increasing and they are beginning to take more responsibility for their learning.
At the beginning of term, we focussed on inputting and interpreting data in tables and graphs. We then began to identify the value of each digit in a three digit number. We used practical and visual resources to help us with our learning. We are now focussing on adding and subtracting numbers up to 1000.
We have been looking at the text of the myth Perseus and Medeus. From this we wrote our own amazing myths including the language features of speech marks, commas in a list and subordinating conjunctions. More recently, we have been identifying the features of play scripts and have really enjoyed acting out scenes ourselves. We are now our skills to write our own scenes of a play script for our Rama and Sita puppet show.
Line of Enquiry
At the beginning of the year, we looked at the book ‘Grace and Family’ which gave us the message that all families are different and family is what you make it! We focused on our own families and created our personal family tree.
Throughout the term we answered the question ‘How do we find out about people in the past?’ looking at historical artefacts, timelines, paintings, music and significant people. We then created personal history boxes, which would reveal information about us to people opening them 100 years from now.
Our next line of enquiry question is ‘Where does the darkness from?’ and we are looking forward to our trip to the planetarium to help us answer our question.
