Term 1 Highlights
Maths
Term one in maths has focussed on the value of each digit in numbers up to 1000. Our prior knowledge of numbers to 100 has been helping us and we have used lots of different resources such an dienes, place value counters and pictorial representations to support our understanding. We are now beginning to add and subtract three-digit numbers and will continue with this theme next term.
English
This term we have learnt how to write an adventure tale. We began by learning the model text about Jason the explorer who went on an adventure to a volcano and then used the themes from the story to write our own adventure tales. We worked hard on our writing skills and included expanded noun phrases, powerful verbs, adverbs and similes in our stories.
We also learnt and performed our class poem ‘Down Behind the Dustbin’ and are looking forward to reciting more poems throughout the year as they support our memory, recall and creativity.
Line of Enquiry
Our enquiry question for term 1 was ‘What is Underneath our Feet?’ and we have loved being geographers and scientists as we learnt about earthquakes, volcanoes, tectonic plates and fossils.
Our challenge was to create the rock cycle using a flow chart and explain how each of the different types of rock can change over time. We recorded these explanations in a documentary to secure our understanding.
